In EU5, WhatsApps Audience Grew 934 Percent since June 2010
With the rising adoption of smartphones, instant messaging services on mobile phones grew in popularity and now reaches 15.7% of the mobile audience in the EU5 region (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK). In April 2011, Facebooks chat function was accessed by 40.7 percent of mobile instant messaging users and overtook MSN that previously was the most popular mobile IM service in Europe.
MSN ranked as a close second with 40.5 percent of the mobile audience using the service during the month. Google ranked third, with its Talk service reaching 21.8 percent of mobile users in EU5.
Since June 2010, WhatsApps market share has increased by 934 percent, growing from 198,000 unique users to 2.1 million unique users in April 2011, witnessing the strongest growth in the Instant Messenger category on mobile phones in EU5.
