Public Broadcasters vs Terrestrial Broadcasters: Who has Largest Share of Online Video?

As the European video landscape continues to evolve, the share of videos delivered via public and terrestrial broadcasters seems to differ significantly across various countries. Looking in particular at the UK, Germany and France, in September 2013 the BBC, public broadcaster in the UK, had a far higher share of online videos delivered from TV broadcasters than the public service broadcasters in either Germany or France.

The public broadcasters in Germany are ARD and ZDF, whilst RTL and ProSiebenSat1 are the commercial terrestrial broadcasters. As for France, France Televisions Interactive is the public broadcaster, with Groupe TF1 and Groupe M6 making up the terrestrial broadcaster share.

The chart below shows that the BBC delivers 34 percent of the total videos in the UK from a group comprising BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Northern & Shell Network (which own Channel Five), whilst ARD and ZDF collectively comprise 11 percent of the videos delivered in Germany and France Televisions Interactive has a 9 percent share of the total videos in France during September 2013.
