Smartphones Score a Touchdown with Sports Fans
As Americans gear up for Super Bowl XLVI, mobile devices are poised to play an important role in this year's big event with apps offering real-time stats, commercial playbacks and even live streaming of the game offered through the NFL mobile app in partnership with Verizon.
Smartphone owners are increasingly turning to their mobile phone to keep tabs on the latest scores and sports news while on the go. In December 2011, 41 million smartphone owners accessed sports information on their phone, an increase of 66% from last year. Those accessing sports info daily grew even faster, up 76% to reach 12.7 million smartphone owners.
