The Rise of Mobile Banking in the UK
In the UK, the number of smartphone users accessing a bank account via their device has increased by 86 percent over the past year. In the three month average ending December 2011, over 4.8 million smartphone users accessed bank accounts on-the-go, compared to 2.6 million in December 2010.
Amongst the nearly 20 percent of smartphone owners using online banking via their mobile device, a growing number is accessing these services on a daily basis. The number of daily users has risen 136 percent since last year, with 889,000 smartphone users (3.5 percent of total smartphone audience) making use of the service in December 2011.
