Now Ranks as Second Largest European Social Networking Site
LONDON, UK, SEPTEMBER 19, 2007 – Comscore (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released its report on France’s largest social networking sites based on data collected through the Comscore World Metrix audience measurement service.
Social networking sites attracted 13.2 million unique visitors from within France in July, reaching 50 percent of the country’s entire online population. French site Skyrock Network dominated the French social networking scene with 9.1 million unique visitors. In second place in July was the worlds’ largest social networking site, MySpace.com, attracting 2.3 million unique visitors.
Interestingly, Facebook, which has enjoyed a 422 percent growth across the continent since the start of the year, has struggled to make an impact on the French market. The site – which attracted 7.6 million U.K. visitors in July - managed just 331,000 French visitors in the same period – less than a 3 percent share of the total French social networking community.
Delphine Gatignol, Comscore’s Business Development Manager for France, commented on the importance of a social networking site being able to cater to individual countries: “Social networking sites are founded on their ability to allow Internet users to communicate quickly and informally with one another. The dominance of Skyrock Networks in France is a strong indication that language is a key factor. The provision of local language pages has allowed some of the multi-national sites to penetrate the French market as well.”

Driven in large part by its French traffic, Skyrock Network has established itself as the second largest European social networking site. The site’s European traffic has grown 22 percent since the start of the year and now encompasses 13.8 million unique European visitors. This surpasses the 12.1 million unique European visitors recorded by the largest U.K. social networking site, Bebo.com.
Skyrock’s traffic has been boosted by the site’s French language focus. As a result, it has attracted a substantial portion of unique visitors from other French speaking European countries including 856,000 from Belgium and 371,000 from Switzerland.
MySpace.com, a U.S.-originating site available to Europeans in local languages, attracted 25.2 million European unique visitors in July, having grown 24 percent since the beginning of 2007.
