Comscore Announces Canada Launch of Video Metrix® Multi-Platform to Measure Video Audiences Across Smartphones, Tablets and Desktops

Launch Includes Mobile Video Reporting for Canadian Broadcasters as well as YouTube and Its Partner Channels to Bolster Measurement of Distributed Content

Toronto, June 1st, 2017 Comscore, Inc. today announced the Canadian launch of Video Metrix® Multi-Platform providing a single, unduplicated measure of digital video consumption across smartphone, tablet and desktop devices to give clients a deeper understanding of how, when and where video content is consumed. This launch also includes the introduction of enhanced mobile video reporting for YouTube and its Partner channels, helping content producers that participate in the YouTube Partner program improve the monetization of their cross-platform audiences across distribution channels.

“With more than two-thirds of Canadians accessing content across multiple devices it is critical that measurement evolves to capture the entire user experience across all platforms,” said Brent Bernie, General Manager for Comscore Canada. “We’ve worked in partnership with Canadian and global broadcasters and publishers to ensure the full extent of their video viewing is accounted for in Video Metrix Multi-Platform in order to help the market better understand how, when, where and who is watching across mobile and desktops.”

This evolution of Comscore’s digital video measurement product Video Metrix®, which was launched in 2008 in Canada, now enables clients to:

  • Quantify total, incremental and unduplicated viewership across smartphone, tablet and desktop
  • Evaluate age and gender demographic across screens
  • Understand how engagement differs across platforms to more efficiently monetize and plan

“We here at PHD project the greatest rates of ad expenditure growth will be coming from Internet Mobile and Video and so we look forward to the new, comprehensive data from Video Metrix Multi-Platform to track consumers’ rapidly changing habits against those two platforms.”

- Rob Young, SVP at PHD Canada

“Digital video is particularly attractive for advertisers given its impact, the ability to integrate it with television buys or to focus on niche audiences. The independent video viewing data delivered by Comscore will help advertisers better understand how their audiences are tuning in across devices, particularly on mobile where continued growth has opened new opportunities for advertisers to smartly build incremental reach and frequency across platforms.”

- Chris Williams, VP Digital at Association of Canadian Advertisers

Video Metrix Multi-Platform is currently available in the US, UK and Canada and will launch in additional markets as Comscore continues to expand its cross-platform measurement capabilities globally.

Video Metrix Multi-Platform relies on the Comscore Unified Digital Measurement (UDM) framework, a hybrid measurement approach that utilizes panels alongside direct measurement from video publishers via census tags. Video content publishers interested in participating in multi-platform digital video measurement can ensure comprehensive coverage of their viewing behavior by implementing census tags and deploying Comscore’s mobile SDK.
