Local Media Entities Are Particularly Popular in Scotland
The popularity of local versus national media is a question that we often get asked at Comscore. The below comparison of selected news brands shows that when focusing on internet users living in North East or Central Scotland, the reach of leading local media properties was significantly higher than the average reach levels in the UK during October 2013.
Trinity Mirror had the biggest reach amongst the Scottish online population with 22.6 percent, compared to a 19.4 percent reach amongst the total UK audience. Gannett (owner of Newsquest and recently named Professional Publisher’s Association B2B digital publisher of the year) also had a strong local offering, seeing a Scottish audience reach level of 18.2 percent and an index of 129.
Additionally, Johnston Press achieved a reach of 11.1 percent in Scotland relative to 7.9 percent across the rest of the UK, therefore indexing at 141 in October 2013.
